Breaking Away

The concept of this piece is the the act of breaking away or withdrawing from routines and starting something new even if is has an unknown ending. I used a space theme to convey the unknown and spur the excitement of the imagination.

The shards of glass is representational of a fragment of a brittle substance that can be our past. Sometimes when we make a big change in our life it can be a delicate, even dangerous move.

This painting was used on the front cover of the 1992 Fullerton College Fall class schedule. Two years later I was awarded a scholarship to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
