The Humble Passing is about my father passing away. There is a lot of representation in this work. The wooden bars that are around the painting represent Jacob's Ladder, climbing the way to heaven. An interesting property about this painting is that the white sections of this piece glow in the dark. The bars break up the painting in a unique way describing the kind of person that he was. I extended the green vine on the bottom left to outside of the black border. I wanted to illustrate that my father had a foot outside of the world. That somehow he was grounded on a different level than most people.
