Face of a Heart

After I finished this I began to send some of my friends photos of the new paintings. The response that i got was shocking to me. Many of the critiques came back saying that the over all feeling of the piece was very dark in nature.

I was surprised! I didn't think it had that kind of feel to it. I'm looking at the painting right now because it is just a few feet from my computer. I like this one for the following 4 reasons. One, The use of mid to high tone primary colors (I believe and paint by the 4 primary color theory) I liked the range of tones in the colors as well Second, there's my checkerboard again. I enjoy exploring that pattern. Third, I've got a heart in there. Yeah! It was the start of this piece. The heart came before the checkerboard. Fourth, I've got a face in there too! How exciting is that?

The water drops were experimental and I liked one enough that I put a couple more in there. Be sure you see the close up shot of those. They look pretty cool.

You should at least see the smoothness of the canvas. There isn't any weave texture. I smoothed that over with a multimedia mix and then sanded it down. It would be like painting on smooth wood or glass. It takes a lot of work to do that and in addition, you have to tighten up the canvas a lot or the weight of the mix will make any store bought canvas sag in a weak spot. My canvases sound like a tight drum when I'm finished with them. Quality!
