This painting was an idea that came from the painting titled, Unbecoming. I wanted to create a more convincing face in this piece. The lines are connected from top to bottom, left to right and it took me a while to realize that by using this method I would be successful in the outcome.
The face, that I hope you see, was created as I painted. I pushed and pulled with highlights and darker tones until the right shapes began to come out. The mouth area was a surprise to me to be as simple as it turned out. I like the expression the face gives as well.
I mixed the paint, including the black, with many colors to bring out a dynamic range of tones once I started to highlight them. Although the photo doesn't bring out the life of this work it does bring out the concept.
