This painting has an unusual story behind it. The first thing that you should know that the purpose of this piece is a gift to a family that just lost their 97 year old grandmother. She had lived in Prescott, Arizona.
When I had started this piece I was going to create a heart painting. I had a few ideas on how I was going to lay it out however the colors I started using were way too dark and the family had bee though enough. I began introducing brighter colors like the light blues and the white paint that i really had to put on thick to cover the darkness underneath. Once I had more of a sky theme going I decided to move away from the heart concept and try something else. I put in the rolling small mountains and began turning the painting into more of a landscape piece. At about this time I had showed the progression to the great grand daughter and she stood back, looked at it and told me that the scene looks like the road along the lake close to the grandmother's home. She told me that all it really needed was to put in a lake at the bottom left and so I did.
About 20 minutes later I showed it to Michelle, a grand daughter. She was stunned. She looked at it after seeing how the painting had started and couldn't believe that the painting that had been started now looked like this. She had not talked to the great grand daughter about it and commented the same about the location of this scene. That it looked just like the view from the road near her grandmother's home. She was very taken back by the painting. I know that this painting touched her. This 2010 Christmas I will be giving this painting to her parents as a gift. I'm looking forward to their reaction to it.
Artist's are often just vehicles or tools in getting feelings communicated. This is another instance of something very special happening.
