This is a very large painting. The piece is 3 dimensional and sticks out from the wall about 18 inches. I built the stretchers from scrap wood that i had that I started to piece together in the wood shop of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. When I realized that I had built a stretcher system that would take an unusually large piece of canvas to staple over it (because of the 18 inch high point) I had to come up with something so what i did was take large scrap pieces and lay them put over the wood frame (stretchers) and the sewed the pieces of canvases together so i could do this art. It wasn't easy but the vision that I had for this work was so strong that the hard work that went into it took no time at all.
This painting was inspired after I had had cartilage surgery in my nose. |
